Smart Power Strengthens Leadership Team to Drive Next Stage of Growth
Cottingham, East Yorkshire — 1st July 2025
Smart Power, a trusted name for quality electrical services in Hull and East Yorkshire, has announced a new leadership structure as the business continues to build on its reputation for reliable workmanship and high standards.
Effective today, Sam Drinkall moves up from Office Manager to Managing Director, while Tom Stannard steps up from Facilities Manager to become Office Manager — a move designed to strengthen the team as Smart Power gears up for its next stage of growth.

In line with the new structure, Adam Drinkall, who founded Smart Power in 2017, will take on the title of Operations Director, reflecting his focus on leading projects on-site and guiding the engineering team day-to-day.
“We know we’re not the biggest electrical business in Hull, but we’ve built a solid reputation for doing the job right,” says Adam Drinkall, Operations Director at Smart Power. “This new setup is about protecting that reputation, growing the commercial side properly, and making sure our domestic customers get an even better service. This is a big step for Smart Power and one we’ve needed for a while. Sam stepping up to Managing Director and Tom moving into Office Manager means we’re putting the right people in the right roles to keep giving our customers the quality and reliability they expect, and to grow stronger as a team.”
Building on Strong Foundations
Sam joined Smart Power in November 2021, when the business was starting to gain real traction locally. With a background in sales management — and a knack for turning hobbies into successful ventures — Sam came in to help Smart Power grow from a handful of domestic and commercial jobs handled by Adam (and the odd bit of help from friends and family) to a well-organised business with proper structure.
Since joining just over three and a half years ago, Sam has focused on expanding Smart Power’s reach into new areas, helping the company more than double its revenue to date, with a clear goal to build it into a million-pound turnover business.
While this is Sam’s first appointment as Managing Director, he brings the commercial focus, financial discipline and drive needed to build Smart Power into a true generational family business.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. The two brothers are known for being fiery when they clash, but that same honesty and passion keeps Smart Power sharp — balancing delivery with commercial sense. One of Sam’s favourite memories so far? The time the team helped a customer manoeuvre a 10ft gorilla statue into place — a job that showed the business has real soul and a willingness to tackle anything together!
Tom’s Next Chapter
Tom Stannard first joined Smart Power part-time in November 2023, bringing with him years of experience managing busy operations — from leading as Duty Manager at Beverley’s leisure centre to turning around a struggling gym in Carnaby near Bridlington.
After seeing what Smart Power was all about, Tom stepped into a full-time role last summer. Over the past year, he’s played a vital role managing stock, materials, and the day-to-day tasks that keep the business moving.
“Working at Smart Power is perfect for me because it allows me to balance my work and family life seamlessly,” says Tom. “Living close to home means I’m always available to support my fiancée and children when they need me. With my cousins and auntie nearby and always willing to step in and help, I’ve got a strong, reliable support system that makes a huge difference in managing daily life and staying focused at work.”
Tom’s new position as Office Manager will see him take on even more responsibility, help free up Sam and Adam’s time, and play a key role in bringing in new team members as the business continues to grow — all while keeping standards high for every customer.
Looking Ahead
Smart Power’s continued growth is very much a team effort — built on Adam’s original vision, Sam’s focus on building a sustainable structure, and Tom’s steady hand on daily operations.
The new structure also means Adam can focus fully on the part of the business that’s always been his strength: leading jobs on-site, supporting the engineers, and making sure every project is delivered to Smart Power’s trusted standard. With Adam stepping into the Operations Director role, the business’s expansion is in experienced hands.
“We know we’re not the biggest electricians in Hull (yet), but we’re proud of our reputation for quality work done right. This new structure sets us up to grow the commercial work we do for businesses and keep raising the bar for our domestic customers too,” Adam adds.
The Smart Power team will continue delivering the same reliable, tidy, and straightforward service local customers know and trust. Now with a stronger foundation for bigger projects, smoother systems and new opportunities for the future.
